Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc.

Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. ( HMGI) is a Port Mourant, Berbice based non government organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in Guyana. HMGI empowers vulnerable individuals by providing skills-based education and training, promoting economic self-sufficiency, and shifting from direct handouts to long-term, practical empowerment. Its mission is guided by the “three E’s”: Educate, Empower, and Elevate.  

We are committed to improving the quality of life for the people of Guyana. Founded in 2005, the organization focuses on a range of humanitarian efforts, including health care, education, and community development. Driven by a mission to uplift and empower the most vulnerable populations, HMGI team collaborates with local communities, government agencies, and international partners to implement sustainable solutions that address pressing social issues, academic excellence and personal growth. 

Recognizing the transformative power of education, the organization implemented comprehensive training programs aimed at increasing educational opportunities and entrepreneurial skills for Guyanese. Our training programs are designed to equip individuals with the skills needed for better employment prospects. The organization is committed to fostering sustainable community development and economic empowerment programs that encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance through educational initiatives, specialized training programs and community engagement. 

HMGI collaborates with local and international partners to expand its reach and ensure sustainability. Through these programs and collaborations, HMGI equips individuals with practical skills, fosters community resilience, and creates long-term pathways out of poverty.

• Government of Guyana – Board of Industrial Training (BIT): Life skills education and certification.
   
• International agencies: Greater Guyana Initiative  (with CNOOC and Hess) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)  helped establish HMGI’s commercial kitchen and solar-powered smart  classroom.
   
• Other NGOs and local partners: Joint training initiatives and donation drives.

 Beyond vocational training, HMGI supports vulnerable populations through: 

• Disability Support: Assistance for persons with disabilities.
   
• Low Income and Single Parents: Support for single parents and low-income families, including fee waivers.
   
• Fighting Food Insecurity: Distribution of food hampers, especially to senior citizens.
   
• Supplies and Gifts: Annual initiatives, including school supplies for children and holiday gifts.
   
• Human Rights: Advocacy and workshops on mental health, gender-based violence prevention, and LGBTQ+ rights.
